Who we are
Data Driven is a market intelligence service that provides visibility and reputation analysis for local New Zealand businesses. We are the outreach practice of Marketbase, a business analytics platform. Our registered business is Gray & Shinn Limited, based at 17 Bengal Drive, Cashmere, Christchurch 8022.
Information we collect
We collect and process two categories of information:
Business information from public sources. We analyse publicly available data about New Zealand businesses, including online reviews, website presence, local search listings, and directory profiles. This information is collected from public sources and used to generate competitive analysis and market intelligence. We do not collect personal information about individual consumers -- only business-level data that is already publicly accessible.
Information you provide directly. When you contact us via our website form or by email, we collect the information you supply, such as your name, email address, phone number, and message content. We also record the IP address associated with form submissions for security and anti-spam purposes.
How we use your information
We use information for the following purposes:
- To provide market intelligence and competitive analysis to local businesses
- To send outreach emails containing personalised business analysis relevant to your local market
- To respond to enquiries submitted through our contact form or by email
- To prevent abuse of our contact form (rate limiting, spam detection)
- To improve the accuracy and relevance of our analysis
Outreach emails
We send commercial electronic messages to businesses when our analytics identify something relevant to their competitive position. Each email contains analysis specific to the recipient's business and local market, generated from publicly available data.
Our emails comply with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007. Every message clearly identifies the sender, includes accurate contact information, and provides a straightforward way to opt out. We send plain text emails only -- no tracking pixels, no HTML, and no embedded links.
If you receive an email from us and prefer not to be contacted again, reply to the email or contact hello@datadriven.nz. We will remove you from all future communications promptly.
Data storage and security
Business data is stored on secure servers located in data centres with appropriate physical and technical safeguards. Contact form submissions are transmitted via encrypted SMTP and are not stored on our web server beyond the time required to send the message.
We retain business analysis data for as long as it remains relevant to our service. Contact enquiry records are retained for a reasonable period to manage our relationship with you and are deleted when no longer needed.
Sharing your information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We may share information with:
- Marketbase (our parent platform) for the purpose of generating business analysis
- Service providers who assist with email delivery and infrastructure, under appropriate confidentiality obligations
- Authorities if required by law or to protect our legal rights
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to:
- Request access to any personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Opt out of receiving commercial electronic messages at any time
- Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you believe your privacy has been breached
Cookies and analytics
This website does not use cookies, tracking scripts, or third-party analytics. The Google Maps embed on our homepage is loaded directly from Google and is subject to Google's privacy policy.
